In context of the “16th Long Night of Computer Games” (LNC) at the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK), we call for contributions for the accompanying scientific symposium “ScienceMashup” till February, 28 (extended deadline).

This year’s topic “Green Games” addresses ecology and sustainability of video games and VR/XR or related technologies that deal with both content and/or the social, cultural or technical aspects of sustainability in gaming and related technologies.

The symposium will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at HTWK Leipzig, as a virtual conference with screencasts and online interactions. The conference format is a mashup of classical scientific presentations of a maximum length of 10 minutes or as a Pecha Kucha-style visualized contribution (20 images á 20 seconds in exactly six minutes, a template will be provided).

The conference theme includes (but is not limited to) topics such as:

  • ecological, social and cultural effects of video games and gaming
  • content-related and/or conceptual analyses
  • design aspects of games
  • didactic of ecology and sustainability and related issues in serious games
  • technology and graphics, VR/XR, logic or algorithms with the perspective and under the constrains of sustainability of resources
  • history of video and edutainment devices around the conference topics

Contributions that refer to non-commercial, artistic or experimental settings or designs are explicitly welcome.

It is planned to publish the conference proceedings in the series “Leipziger Beiträge zur Computerspielekultur” (Springer VS), which will be launched in 2022. Organizational details (length, citation style, scheduling) will follow. The deadline is expected to be early summer 2022. The volume will be published in 2022.

WHAT IS THE SCIENCE MASHUP?

The Science MashUp symposium format combines short scientific talks with contributions in a Pecha Kucha format. It has been informing about trends in gaming, research, education and in the industry in an entertaining way since 2020. For the audience, the scientific approach is combined with a presentation method originating from Japan, which is called Pecha Kucha, resulting in a fresh and dynamic form of interaction. A conference anthology is published annually in the series “Leipziger Beiträge zur Computerspielekultur”. Already published: Science MashUp: Future of Games (2020) and Sciene MashUp: XR – Society – Utopia (2021).
