Application deadline: August 31, 2022

The School of Computing at Newcastle University is looking to appoint a number of permanent faculty positions at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level.

We are particularly keen to attract applicants with a strong background and interests in Human-AI Interaction and/or HCI. Successful applicants in these areas would join Open Lab, the school’s world-leading HCI research group, and will be supported towards growing their own research team. We are looking for future colleagues who can demonstrate collegiality and research excellence and who will either complement or extend our current areas of expertise within the group. The successful candidate will contribute to our successful MSc Human-Computer Interaction course and to broader undergraduate teaching within the department, as appropriate.

Newcastle University is a world top 150 University with a global reach, located in the vibrant city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the North East of England in the UK (and right next to some of the UK’s most liveable places and award winning beaches ). For over 60 years Newcastle has pioneered developments in digital technologies and software systems. By providing an inclusive and collegiate environment for all colleagues together with a focus on our students, we deliver internationally recognised research and teaching of the highest standard. We are consistently recognised by the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) as delivering globally leading research. In REF 2014 we were rated as number 1 in the UK for research impact and in 2021 95% of our research was deemed world leading or internationally excellent, increasing our research power by 39%. The successful growth of the School has been accommodated by relocating to a purpose-built facility on the Helix development in the heart of Newcastle. The Helix is one of Europe’s most exciting innovation hubs that brings together world-class researchers, local agencies, and businesses to collaborate on digital innovation for societal benefit.
