The Department of Communication <https://communication.uark.edu/> in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor whose research and teaching focus is mediated communication. Potential areas of study may include immersive media, interactive media, mixed/augmented/virtual reality, and emerging entertainment technologies. The position will start in August 2023. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty and students in the study and practice of mediated communication and complement the additional Departmental emphasis areas of film studies, interpersonal communication, organizations and communities, and rhetoric and public communication. We are working to build diversity, equity, and inclusion into all facets of our work, and the colleague we hire should help us advance these efforts in our research, teaching, and engagement.

Duties will include establishing and maintaining an active and independent research program, developing classes and teaching effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and providing service to the Department, University, and discipline.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • D. in Communication or terminal degree in a related field by the time of appointment
  • Evidence of active research program
  • Demonstrated competency in the classroom

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research commensurate with institutions holding the highest Carnegie classification
  • Interdisciplinary research
  • Engaged scholarship with community members
  • External funding
  • Demonstrated success working with underrepresented communities and diverse populations
