We are looking for an outstanding researcher who can work with the Glasgow Interactive Systems Section (GIST) on Human Computer Interaction.

GIST provides an ideal ground for academic growth. It leads a Centre for Doctoral Training providing 50 PhD scholarships over five years (www.social-cdt.org). In addition, 4 of its members are in the list of the top 2% of researchers in the world (journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.3000384 ). GIST members have accumulated more than 30,000 Scholar citations and have been or are leading large-scale national and European projects (including the ERC advanced grant “Viajero”, the Network Plus grant “Human Data Interaction”, the FET-Open project “Levitate”, the FET-Proact project Sonicom, the H2020 project MuMMER, the European Network of Excellence “SSPNet”, the Program Grant “Populations”, etc.) for a total of over £20M in the last 10 years.

Applications for the post are welcome in any research areas that revolve around interaction with and through technology, including (but not limited to) development of new interaction technologies (haptic interfaces, Virtual and Augmented Reality, tangible interfaces, touchless user interfaces, etc.), design of new interaction paradigms (ethnographic studies, user experience, human-centred design, etc.), responsible human-data and human-machine interaction (ethically aware data-driven approaches, responsible and interactive AI, human-centred safety and security, data visualisation, etc.), socially intelligent technologies (social robotics, social and affective AI, artificial agents, etc.).

For appointment at Reader you will have an outstanding track record of national and international distinction and leadership in research, including publications, income, and awards, bringing external recognition and distinction to yourself and the University.

The ideal candidate combines solid theoretical and methodological skills with the ability to address real-world problems that involve interactions with technology. Candidates are expected to have a solid track record in terms of publications (a continuous stream of papers in venues considered top tier according to internationally established criteria) and, in the case of more senior applicants, successful grant applications. In addition, attention will be paid to the ability to achieve impact outside academia through collaboration with industry, public outreach, collaboration with public bodies, etc.
