Aim and scope

Social Intelligence Design (SID) as a research and practice field attempts to integrate and understand the intelligent and coordinated interactions among humans, artefacts, and environments. The workshop’s theme — engaging with and within technologies – social relationships and design issues — revolve round interactions that build social relationships, organizations and communities.

We can approach interaction design from two main perspectives, each presenting multi-disciplinary research challenges. One focuses on interaction environments asking the question – what should they look like? The other focuses on information environments asking the question -ó what can people do there?

Researchers from all fields employing computation and or cognition including design processes, workspaces, education, business processes, entertainment, social systems, and other fields are invited to participate.

We encourage multidisciplinary perspectives – exploring Social Intelligence at the intersection of multiple disciplines, such as people-place-process and place-technology-interaction, which bring technology, work spaces, social behaviours and process aspects together.

Attendees are invited to participate in the conference by submitting a full-length paper on completed research relating to design computing and cognition, or a short paper presenting on-going research.

Participants submitting full papers may wish to concentrate on the following:

• Cognitive, Social and Cultural Foundations of Social Intelligence Design
• Enabling and Supporting Technologies for Social Intelligence
• Application Areas with Examples, Case Studies and User-Designer Experience

Participants submitting short papers of work in progress are advised to concentrate on studies of:

• Interactions between people, artefacts and environments
• Interactions that build relationships at work or in social life
• Interactions in online and virtual communities
