| Call: “Virtual Realities and Gaming” track at MKWI 2012 (Multikonferenz Wirtschaftsinformatik) | |
| June 14, 2011 Track “Virtual Realities and Gaming” Deadline: 15th of September 2011 Background: In recent years virtual realities and computer games have attracted the attention of media and academics alike. The technological framework of virtual realities is constituted of 3D-based interaction, avatars and voice-over-IP, which surpass the richness and interactivity of existing web applications by far. The enhanced interactivity and social presence promote a sense of immersion, i.e. the feeling of “being there together”. The application of virtual realities has also found growing usage in the business context (f.i. within IBM and HP), where it can help fostering innovation. Furthermore, companies increasingly acknowledge the value of games and game mechanics to achieve positive effects such as an enhanced motivation of participation and creativity. Computer games and virtual realities introduce a whole new field of research and a variety of research questions to the Information Systems Research. The upcoming track at MKWI 2012 is intended to focus on two areas:
Specific Subjects: The track at MKWI aims to consolidate previous research and create a foundation for future systematic research in this field. Papers can present a theoretical as well as an empirical approach. They could address one of the following aspects but are not limited to those:
Program structure: Papers should not exceed a maximum of 12 pages and should present hitherto unpublished research results in either German or English. Approved papers will be published as conference-proceedings. Experiential reports including new and unique findings as well as interdisciplinary contributions are welcome.
