We have a vacancy for a position as tenure-track Associate Professor in Extended Reality (XR=VR/AR/MR) and Visual Computing at the Department of Computer Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), workplace is at campus Gjøvik, Norway.

We are recruiting in the core area of Extended Reality XR (Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality), as part of the Visual Computing area of Computer Science and the core technology’s application related to simulation, training, and serious games within various fields.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • The associate professor is expected to play a leading role in research and research-based education related to the research field in close collaboration with existing staff at the department of computer science.
  • The successful applicant is expected to engage extensively in applications for external funding, e.g. from the Research Council of Norway, European research and educational agencies, the industry sector and other available sources.
  • The associate professor will contribute to the department’s educational profile and an excellent learning environment in collaboration with colleagues, students and external stakeholders. He/she should supervise BSc students, MSc students, PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows.
  • In addition to research and education, the associate professor is expected to disseminate relevant parts of his/her research to a wider audience (public outreach).
  • The associate professor will also participate in the management of research, education and other relevant academic activities in agreement with the Head of Department.
  • Be responsible for the VR/AR lab at department of computer science in Gjøvik.

During the tenure track period of six years, the successful applicant will be given professional guidance, training, and advice by mentors appointed by the department to build a successful academic career. The applicant will be subject to a mid-career assessment after three years, and a final tenure assessment after no more than six years. It is expected that the applicant will qualify for a full professorship at the end of the tenure-track period.
