Closing date: Sunday 15 August 2021

The Department of Computer Science is interested in recruiting two outstanding academic faculty with a growing international reputation for work in Human-Computer Interaction.

We are open to excellent candidates across the breadth of HCI, but applicants are encouraged with expertise that intersects with current strengths at Bath including interaction techniques, virtual reality, fabrication, health, exergaming, hardware and haptics. You will be join the HCI group within the Department of Computer Science, and your research interests might also intersect with the other groups in the Department: Visual Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Foundations. What you will do as a faculty member:

Research – You’ll work with colleagues, students and researchers to develop and publish papers. You’ll apply for research funding to support your ideas. You’ll find ways of making your research available to society, for example, by working with industry, developing spin-outs, collaborating with charities, influencing policy makers, or delivering talks and demonstrations to excite wider audiences.

Teaching – You’ll have a few courses to run. This includes designing and delivering the content through lectures, tutorials, and labs. You’ll be educating and inspiring some of the brightest students in the country. In the current climate, your ability to innovatively deliver an engaging experience and a supportive programme will be even more important.

Helping with the running of the department – You might help with student placements, ethics processes, recruitment and admissions, or lead a research team.

If you have any questions or you would like to talk informally about the role, please contact Professor Mike Fraser, Head of Department (mcf35@bath.ac.uk).

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath has grown rapidly over the last two years, with recent recruitment in HCI faculty including Professor Jason Alexander, Dr Christopher Clarke, Dr Christof Lutteroth and Professor Mike Fraser. The department hosts two centres for Doctoral Training, the Digital Economy Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research and Applications, and prestigious fellowships within the HCI group funded by both EPSRC and ERC. In addition to an existing large makerspace and bespoke VR and motion capture labs, we have recently added a new fabrication research laboratory to our facilities.
