IBC is the world’s most inspiring content and technology event. It draws together the global media, entertainment and technology industry for a compelling live experience that enables every attendee to gain critical insights, share expertise and unlock business opportunities. Created ‘by the industry, for the industry’ – a principle established on its founding in 1967 that carries through to today – IBC has continued to evolve with each new trend and technology over its 55-year history. Attracting representatives from 24 countries in its first year, IBC now welcomes exhibitors, speakers and visitors from more than 170 nations.
The Technical Papers Programme at IBC 2023 welcomes entries from all industry sectors across the media, entertainment and technology industry and from every discipline, whether you are a professional or a professor, a member of a R&D team, working alone or within a global brand and from across any part of the broadcast, communications, electronic media and entertainment fields.
TECHNICAL PAPERS PROCESS
Technical Papers present original, novel research on solutions to real-world problems faced by the international broadcast and digital media industry, and are non-commercial (Tech Paper Guidelines). They can be about any relevant industry topic, but we encourage submissions on the topics that are of most current interest to the IBC audience.
The first step is submitting a 300-word synopsis. All submissions are peer-reviewed by a committee of independent industry experts. Successful authors are then invited to submit a full Technical Paper for further peer review, with successful papers presented at the IBC this September.

Synopsis submission deadline: Friday 10th February
Committee Synopsis Review Meeting: Friday 3rd March
Synopsis acceptance notification: w/c Monday 13th March
Full papers deadline: Tuesday 2nd May
Committee full paper review meeting: Friday 9th June
Paper outcome notification: Friday 23rd June
Accepted papers presented at IBC2023: 15- 18th September
SYNOPSIS GUIDELINES
Please consider the following:
We are seeking original, novel, unpublished research/analysis that is not overtly commercial in tone and provides solutions to current challenges faced by our industry or gives insight into its future direction.
- Substantially New Paper: Proposals which have already been published or presented elsewhere will not be accepted.
- Written in English: Proposals must be written in English language. It’s a good idea to prepare your text off-line in a Word document before cutting and pasting it into the website template.
- Good Spoken English: Should your paper be selected for inclusion and presentation, the delivering speaker must be sufficiently proficient in verbal English language, to answer questions from the audience.
- Clear and Concise: Describe the advance or concept that will be the key topic of your paper highlighting what is unique, showing how it will improve existing systems or practices and explaining its background.
- Length: Synopses should typically be no more than 300 words in length.
- Historical Papers: Offers of reviews or historical papers will only be accepted if they draw strong and relevant conclusions about future directions.
- Include Results: If the proposal describes experimental work, mention what the results (or anticipated results) show and explain what the impact might be.
- No Sales Pitches: Products or service pitches will not be accepted, however contributions explaining the use of technology in products or services may be considered.
- Demonstrations: If you intend to use tools such as simulations, demonstrations or 3D graphics to help an audience understand your presentation then please say so.
